Barrister and Mann

Shaving Product Review - Barrister and Mann "Dickens"

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas around here with the likes of Barrister and Mann Dickens #soap and #aftershave for this festively inspired SOTD!

Worth pointing out that with this year's holiday deliveries, you get a rather professional holiday card which has the holiday cookie recipe on the back! You can see the front of it, at least, in my recent Passiflora review. I'll add a picture here later on... Forgot to do that this morning. Be sure to also check out yesterday's First Snow review which was also re-released for this holiday season!

I actually got my Dickens soap during last year's run (which was not in the glissant formulation or new packaging as it is now) - and it wasn't until this year's run that I could complete the package and add a matching aftershave, which is also new. If you want to check out first impression or full review of Dickens soap, check those out. I won't get into it too much today. Performance, as you might expect, is typical - excellent.

Long story short, the scent has notes of cherry, black pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, and lemon. Now with the matching aftershave, it's easier to define the scent as I smell it (soap is never quite true). As I said originally, "You get the cherry/lemon but it's tempered equally by the pepper, cardamom and nutmeg." The aftershave is not really any different. Initially you get the lemon and slightly less so, the cherry. It's not as sweet as you might expect, as they're tempered by the spices. The pepper pokes through and is readily identifiable, while the cardamom and nutmeg round things out, more in the background. The scent strength, as with the soap, is on the low side of medium. It's fairly light and that's probably a good thing, unless you want to smell of cookies all day. Unfortunately, the longevity isn't really there so that wouldn't be much of an issue anyway. As "holiday cookie" as it is, it's a generally pleasant scent that you can use any time of year, honestly. And with the fleeting scent you can easily follow up with something else.

Hardware today consisted of the #Mühle #R89 with a #PolSilver on shave four and my egg beater of choice was the #BSB Shaving Brush, making bacon in the #GTP scuttle.

A really pleasant, yet low key scent for the holidays in classic #barristermann packaging - with equally classic performance. If you're a fan of B&M you'll surely want to grab this combo for your collection. It should agree with everyone and can be used year-round and even followed up with a more potent, all-day scent should you choose to.
