Dr. Jon's

Shaving Product Review - Dr. Jon's Shaving Soap Co. "Savannah Sunrise" and
Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Otra"

Today's SOTD continues my impromptu Dr Jon's appreciation week and PolSilver blade experiment! The scent of the day is peaches... And I freakin' love peaches.

...Take a little nap where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you, woman,
I poked my finger down inside
Make a little room for an ant to hide
Nature's candy in my hand or can or a pie...

If you've been following my SOTD's this week, you'll surely know about the truly excellent performance of Dr. Jon's soaps. Oodles of scent emanates from the tin and sets the stage - in this case, mostly gardenia and peach. Once you start building the sublimely thick, slick lather - the jasmine, orange blossom and honeysuckle take more of the stage and round things out. Overall, it's a ridiculously good fruity, floral bouquet that fills your nose. Some describe it as a spring/summer walk in a peach orchard. Yup! The smell of peaches is just very happy and uplifting, which combined with the performance - well, you're in for a real nice shave, fellas.

I didn't have an #aftershave that would remotely pair with this aside from florals. #PAA Otra and Al Fin come to mind, as did Lavender and Cedar and Dapper Doc's... Each with a different type of floral. Today I chose to go with Otra (as I have a matching #deo). The scent was different - but worked well - and kept the vibe going.

Hardware wise, let me mention the standard stuff and get it out of the way... #Merkur #Futur razor and the #Dovo silvertip badger brush whipped up the goods in the #GTP scuttle. As I've mentioned before, I prefer to use a softer, wetter brush with #drjonssoapco's somewhat thirsty soaps. It makes loading quick and easy, without having to worry about grabbing too much of this rather soft croap.

Now for the blade... Bulgarian #PolSilver, which I've been raving about all week and today was shave four on this blade. Still smooth, still close! So far I really have nothing negative to say about them. Quite the opposite; they don't run hot like some crazy sharp blades such as the #Feather - which has allowed me to use my aggressive Futur day after day without that burn. It was also super plush from the first stroke onwards; no initial roughness. Though today I could feel I was starting to push it a little. A lil' dab of Queen Charlotte Soaps #balm before the aftershave and that was that! I'll keep using the blade and see how far we get...

So, long story short... Grab a tin (or three) of Dr. Jon's soap. This is really good stuff and if you like your soaps with a strong, multifaceted scent - none of them should disappoint (at least of the four I've tried so far). I definitely see myself picking up some more, starting with Propaganda and possibly Hex.
