Wishing hard for spring to arrive with La Belle du Sud ("southern beauty") #soap and #aftershave from Mickey Lee Soapworks and celebrating their new packaging, released today!
A Southern Belle epitomized Southern Hospitality. Coming from the French word “belle” meaning beauty, she was a cultivation of beauty with a flirtatious yet chaste demeanor.
Our shave soap captures the sweet, yet sassy nature of a Southern Belle. The sweet scent of ripe peaches cut with an under current of lavender and a hint of nutty pistachio. You are sure to love this sweet lady.
I done extensive reviews of countless #mickeyleesoaps (click the hashtag to browse them all) - so check them out for more information as far as performance goes. Today I'll just talk about the scent. La Belle du Sud ("southern beauty") is a simple, uplifting scent with notes of peach, lavender and pistachio. The peach and the sweetness of it is countered by the lavender, which grounds it a bit. It's obviously fruity and floral, but the nutty pistachio note further reigns them in so as not to be over the top. The fairly mild scent strength of both the soap and aftershave also serve to temper the scent overall. What you're left with is a bright, semi-fruity, semi-floral fragrance recalling a summer day in the south.
Comparable peach-forward scents might include Dr. Jon's Savannah Sunrise or L&L Grooming Southern Paradise. Taking a bit of liberty with the peach (more like peachy Persicol) and you have Barrister and Mann Le Grand Chypre. And of course, there's no shortage of lavender scented shaving soaps and aftershaves to be had.
Hardware for today consisted of the #TimelessRazor #TRBR38 with an #Astra blade on shave two for an impeccable BBS result. The appropriately green and red colored brush is courtesy of #WildWestBrushworks featuring a 24mm BOSS knot. Finally, the #GTP scuttle brought everything together for a nice, warm lather.
It's hard to think it's spring when the temperature outside is a balmy 25ºF today... But uplifting scents like La Belle du Sud go a long way to shake off the cabin fever. Performance, as always, it right on point.
Incidentally, hit up the Mickey Lee Soapworks website today to check out the preshaves, balms and shave soaps in new jars! Everything's been restocked and whatever's left in the old packaging will score you a 15% discount.
