Shaving Product Review - Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "FU Fougère"
Today's SOTD is brought to you by #PAA FU Fougère #soap and #aftershave - a very rare combo as the soap was an extremely limited run and sold out in under two hours!
First, let's talk about the scent. FU Fougère has strong bamboo on the top note, some bitter orange (petitgrain and bergamot) as well as clary sage. The mid shifts to florals, but they're faint - more like background/supporting notes. The bamboo/sage remains at the forefront. It reminds me a lot of Lime Ice Sage but without the menthol. As it continues to dry down, it starts to get interesting... I get more of the pine, fir and oakmoss vibe of the base. It gets more "fougèrey" as it dries down but it takes a while... As more of the sage clears away, the scent reveals hay and tobacco in the mix. These three scents are what remain. I'm not sure I really like it.
The soap, out of the tin, smells a bit darker - more complex. Not as overwhelmed by the clary sage, but essentially on point. This is the new formula, containing avocado oil. As I mentioned in my review of Lime, Ginger & Tea Tree yesterday (http://tinyurl.com/q7qdx7q), it definitely adds to the formula. An improved post-shave skin feel (nothing beats avocado oil, be it shaving or bath soap) and a slicker, silkier lather. The improvement is subtle on both aspects, but it's noticeable. Something else I noticed is that the lather appears a little flatter - but creamier.
The hardware today was my #Mühle #R89 fitted with a #Gillette 7 O'clock (black) blade on shave two with suds courtesy of the #BSB Shaving Brush and #GTP scuttle.
A really nice shave, with strong bamboo and sage filling the nose throughout - ending with a unique, green fougère-esque finish. I'm mixed on the scent, and to be honest - I much prefer the Jitterbug Fougère or Dejá Fougère scents. They're more of a fougère to me, and more complex...
