A healthy, heaping helping of dirt, rain and darkness - starring Barrister and Mann Petrichor #soap and #aftershave with a Fougère Gothique #EdP signal boost!

Everyone knows that smell of damp soil after rain. Properly known as "petrichor," it's actually the smell of the chemical geosmin, which is produced by spores in the ground. Here at Barrister and Mann, we really love that smell, so we decided to make a shaving soap and aftershave version! Our Petrichor soap and aftershave smell like walking through the forest after a brief Spring storm. Rainboots recommended.

I've done a lot of reviews of #BarristerMann goodies over their history - in fact, almost every product they've released! Click on the hashtag to browse them all, or check out the History of Barrister and Mann for a more targeted approach. Regular readers should be well aware of the performance of both soap and aftershave, so let's skip that. More specifically, I've done an in-depth review of Petrichor as well as an in-depth review of Fougère Gothique (just yesterday) with a deeper dive into the scent itself in this Fougère Gothique first impression so check those out for all the backstory on these.

That out of the way... Petrichor is a real connoisseur's petrichor/geosmin, complete with oakmoss. It doesn't lean too much into the floral or grassy, nor does it "try too hard." It just is, and the scent strength is pleasingly robust. And the lovely, earthy green vibe makes a fantastic segue into the opening of Fougère Gothique! As the latter dries down, you're left with an elegant, yet still earthy and green fougére. Wow, what a scent ride!

Go figure, I forgot to include the EdP in the photo... So I added some on the side, along with a shot of my matching clothing/jewelry - which I totally did subconsciously, I swear.

Hardware for today included the #TimelessRazor #TRBR38 bronze razor (which I did a huge review on earlier this week) with a #PolSilver blade on (a happy) shave three. The brush selection, naturally... Fell to this latest offering from #LowbornSupply featuring a 24mm BOSS knot called Terra. The colors couldn't have been more perfect for today's shave and autumn in general. Performance was exemplary and more viscerally, just a great handle shape and knot. The #GTP scuttle kept all the dank nice and warm.

What an awesome scent experience these two accords made. Wet, earthy and dark yet refined and elegant at the end. I could repeat this shave infinitely!
