Shaving Product Review - Dr. Jon's Shaving Soap Co. "Raz*War" and
Musgo Real "Classic"
An awesome SOTD today, courtesy of Dr. Jon's Raz*War #soap and Musgo Real Classic #aftershave!
This soap is a collaboration with Raz*War in Belgium. Unlike other #DrJonsSoapCo products, the notes aren't printed on the label with Raz*War but they are sandalwood, allspice, black pepper and mandarin. It's a vegan formula just like the other Dr. Jon's soaps and contains:
Stearic acid, water, potassium hydroxide, shea butter, mango butter, avocado oil, castor oil, coconut oil, evening primrose oil, meadowfoam oil, essential/fragrance oils
Naturally, the performance of the soap was top notch. Dr. Jon's is some of the slickest soap out there, with both primary and secondary lubricity (meaning you can make multiple passes easily, even if the lather's gone). A fairly average loading produced excellent lather with ample cushion. The scent didn't totally grab me, but it was rather nice - the profile is certainly up my alley. It's of a similar vibe as Hex and Classic. That is, sort of a spicy wood. It's worth pointing out that while it's "caffeinated" it's not for a caffeine buzz - it's for tightening up the skin.
Alas, there's a matching aftershave (that was only recently introduced) but I don't have it... So I went with Musgo Real Classic aftershave. Like the balm, this stuff is liquid gold! Fantastic classic "barbershop scent" and even better face feel! I'm left with well-hydrated feeling skin, ever so slightly tacky and sublimely soft. I just recently got this, after having the balm for a couple of years now... I don't know why I waited so long. Really nice stuff, as are all of their products - I'm a huge fan of their shaving creams.
Hardware today was the #Mühle #R89 razor with a #Feather blade on shave three. The Mühle 21mm Silvertip Fibre brush, kept wetter than usual made loading the extremely soft soap fairly easy. The #GTP scuttle kept the lather warm and in check.
A rather nice shave today! I much enjoyed the performance of the soap as well as the aftershave. Different scents, but that's okay as they didn't conflict in any way. My face is BBS and feeling superb, so I'm a happy camper!
