Shaving Product Review - Michell's "Wool Fat" and
Saponificio Varesino "70th Anniversary" and
Giorgio Armani "Acqua di Gio"
Today's SOTD is in honor of "Throwback Thursday" and includes one absolutely shitty Van der Hagen brush and Mitchell's Wool Fat #soap a.k.a. "The Fat."
Yup, it's true. That $8 Van der Hagen "boar" brush is a flippin' piece of crap... But it did the job and got me hooked! My first brush, it developed a nasty whorl in the hairs that multiple attempts at fixing just couldn't rectify. Using it today was just plain nasty. I haven't been able to toss it, but that might change when I get home.
Mitchell's Wool Fat soap was my first "real" soap and the excellent performance also got me hooked... It set the bar pretty high for shaving going forward. I did a long write-up and review on it earlier (http://tinyurl.com/owpjz6l).
The remaining hardware was my #Mühle #R89 razor fitted with a #PolSilver blade and for the purpose of today's shave, was not "authentic." I actually started with a #Merkur #23C which I took to immediately - the shave blew my mind and I never went back to electric again. I didn't use it today because we haven't been seeing eye to eye for a while now; no idea why. I'll revisit one day.
Finishing off the today was Saponificio Veresino 70th Anniversary balm - for two reasons. One, I used primarily Acqua di Gio back then and planned to today - so scent-wise, it was the deal. Secondly, I was curious just how much of the insanely good face feel was created by the #SapVaresino soap - or the balm. Surprisingly, it's a killer balm, but only half of the picture... The matching soap is equally, if not more important! So if there's any doubt about claims soap makers make about it having moisturizing or other properties... It's true. Today was no slouch though, being that MWF has it's own groove going on. Finally, I used Acqua di Gio #deo and #EdT .
A fun shave, and a neat idea! Thanks for motivating us today!
